Join the Musconetcong Watershed Association and New Jersey Highlands Coalition on a casual hike around Merrill Creek Reservoir in Harmony Township on Saturday, June 3, 2023, followed by an optional gathering at Buttzville Brewing Company, located less than 10 miles away at 30 E Washington Ave, Washington, NJ 07882.
This 5.5-mile hike around the Merrill Creek Reservoir features mixed deciduous forests of the New Jersey Highlands and sweeping vistas of the ancient ridges that form Warren and Hunterdon Counties. On this hike you will learn about the history, geology and forests in New Jersey, including how the reservoir was formed and its role as part of the mountains and streams that are enjoyed by millions of New Jerseyans for drinking and fishing.
This trail is well maintained with some areas through the woods and some areas on packed gravel. The hike itself has only gradual changes in elevation. With summer heat on the way, be sure to keep your eye on the weather and bring plenty of water, a snack/lunch, and the 10 hiking essentials (https://www.nynjtc.org/content/10-hiking-essentials).
We will meet for the hike at 10:00am at the reservoir boat ramp parking lot, located at 34 Merrill Creek Rd, Washington, NJ 07882. The Google Maps link for that lot is here: https://goo.gl/maps/eSXvhfMNQq8ZF7QB6.
