As a fisherman who is often found wading into rivers, there is nothing I love more in the spring than ditching my thick, neoprene waders for a bathing suit and water shoes to cool off.

I love to go to my local waterways to slough off the summer heat while I reel in some of the river’s finest fish. That clean, cold-water experience is one that people in few other regions outside of the New Jersey Highlands get to experience. But what makes our region unique with waters that run so cold in weather so hot?
